ストーリーは、落ち目のハリウッド・スターが「奥さまは魔女」のリメイクで復活を期し、相手役に無名の新人を大抜擢するが、なんと彼女は、普通の恋を夢みる本物の魔女だった…。というものです。
この無名の新人というのが、ニコール・キッドマンです。
監督は、「恋人たちの予感」 (1989)で脚本を担当し、その後、「ユー・ガット・メール 」(1998)で監督デビューし、この作品をヒットさせたノーラ・エフロンです。他に「めぐり逢えたら」 (1993)などの作品があり、これまでメグ・ライアンと組み、彼女を一躍、コメディアンスとして定着させました。
この作品は、ノーラ・エフロンの手腕を見込んで、ニコール・キッドマンが持ちかけたらしいです。
