「タイタニック」以来、劇映画から遠ざかっていたジェームズ・キャメロン監督がついに本格始動した。現在は、木城ゆきとのSFアクション漫画「銃夢（ガンム）」を原作にした「バトル・エンジェル」のキャスティングの真っ最中。主役のサイボーグ少女アリタ役への応募条件は、16歳から20代半ばまでの女性で、運動神経があり、猫のように柔軟で、素早く華麗な動作が出来て、外国語や方言が得意であること、だとか。撮影は来春開始される予定。
キャメロン監督によると、現在は「バトル・エンジェル」とは別に、2本の作品を同時に進めており、どちらも3D映画になるという。「バトル・エンジェル」の公開は07年、「プロジェクト880」と呼ばれているもう1つの作品は、09年の公開予定だ。
