鬼才テリー・ギリアム監督の7年ぶりの新作「ブラザーズ・グリム」。東京国際映画祭での上映に合わせてギリアム監督が来日し、六本木ヒルズアリーナで記者会見が行なわれた。監督は、ゲストの上戸彩と2人で白馬の馬車に乗って登場したが、映画にちなんだ赤ずきん風の衣裳をまとった上戸に、大満足の様子だった。

「未来世紀ブラジル」「12モンキーズ」など、凝った映像と独特のユーモア・センスでカルト的人気を誇るギリアム監督が今回題材にしたのは、監督自身が少年時代に読んでハマったという“グリム童話の世界”。ところが「一番好きなグリム童話は？」と聞かれると、「どれも好きだけど、おとぎ話として一番好きなのは実はアンデルセンの『裸の王様』なんだ」と本音をポロリ。「大人たちが目をくらませて真実を見抜けなくなっているときに、子供だけが正直であるところが好きだね」と語った。また、熱烈なアピールを受けたという主演のマット・デイモンについては「とても優れた俳優。この作品で彼の笑いのセンスを堪能できるのでは」とコメント。弟役のヒース・レジャーについても「若いのに才能ある俳優」と称賛した。

今回の会見は会場が野外だったため、近くにいた街宣車の騒音に声がかき消されるというハプニングもあったが、監督はそれに応戦して大声をはりあげてみせるなど、相変わらずの茶目っ気ぶりを発揮して会場を沸かせた。「ブラザーズ・グリム」は11月3日より全国公開。
