03年に発売され、国内で20万枚、海外で30万枚を超える売上を記録するホラー・アドベンチャー・ゲーム「SIREN」。06年2月に待望の新作「SIREN2」が発売されるが、この新作から基本設定を得て描かれる映画「サイレン」の製作発表が10月11日、東京・六本木のクラブ“スピークイージー”で行われ、映画初主演となる市川由衣やココリコの田中直樹をはじめとするキャストたちと、堤幸彦監督、ゲーム「SIREN」の製作陣が出席した。
作品は、日本の離島・夜美島（やみじま）で、市川由衣演じる少女が「サイレンが鳴ったら外に出てはならない」というミステリアスな伝承からはじまる数々の謎と恐怖体験に翻弄されながら、予測不能な怪異に巻き込まれていく物語。戦慄のサイコスリラーの撮影とあって、記者からは「撮影中に何か怪奇現象は起きなかったか？」との質問が飛んだ。堤監督が「撮影では高性能な機材に普通では考えられないようなミスや故障が続発した。実は撮影前のお祓いも、念を入れて2回行った」と語ると、市川も「雷のシーンを撮るときに、震えや涙が止まらなくなった」と受けた。田中は「2回やったというお祓いに、自分はどちらも参加させてもらっていない。これから会社（所属先の吉本興業）と、このことについて話し合いたい」とコメントし、会場の笑いを誘った。「サイレン」は06年2月11日、全国東宝系にて公開予定。
