映画祭ゼネラルプロデューサーの角川歴彦氏（左）と
今年で第18回目を迎える東京国際映画祭。開催を1カ月後に控え、第2回目の記者会見が、9月20日に六本木アカデミーヒルズ（東京・六本木）で行なわれた。
今回はコンペティション部門全作品の他、特別招待作品などの各部門の発表がされ、特別招待作品は、オープニング作品であるチャン・イーモウ監督の新作「単騎、千里を走る。」以外に、今年のカンヌ映画祭で話題をさらったトミー・リー・ジョーンズ監督・主演の「メルキアデス・エストラーダの3度目の埋葬（原題）」、「呪怨」の清水崇監督の新作「輪廻」、「恋におちたシェイクスピア」のジョン・マッデン監督、グウィネス・パルトロウ主演の「プルーフ・オブ・マイ・ライフ」、巨匠ロマン・ポランスキー監督の「オリバー・ツイスト」など、充実のラインナップが明らかになった。
また、国際審査委員に選ばれた桃井かおり（女優）、「リング」や「ダーク・ウォーター」の原作者、鈴木光司（作家）が来場し、それぞれに映画祭に対しての抱負を語った。
第18回東京国際映画祭は、六本木ヒルズと渋谷Bunkamuraの2つの会場で、10月22日～30日に開催される。
